Today, the “M” word has the RV industry abuzz.     Oh man you missed the mark on this. Millenials is a buzz word that recognizes the next generation of Americans. Problem is that they currently, and in the foreseeable future, only make up 15% of the RV travel market. The primary market for RV purchases and travel is and will remain to be the retiring boomers.

    To prove my point I will reference a group called Fulltime Families. This group is made up of young families who live full time in RVs. Right now they have about 300 active families who travel full time. Yeah only 300.

    Or I will reference the Escapees Xscapers group which pulls from this audience too. They have about 500 active members. Yeah only 500.

    Last year the RV industry sold nearly 500,000 RVs. Hmm

    A better article would have focused on the Millenials who own RVs and use them for weekend and holiday travels. This group is much larger, in the tens of thousands, and really defines the impact of Millenials on the RV lifestyle. Greg Gerber hints at this group and their needs in his piece.

      I’ve met several boomers that full time but zero millennials that full time yet. I’m only in CGs in the SE 120 – 160 days a year so maybe more time or a different area is needed. I replied here before I thought it was more hope and hype by the manufacturers than fact.
      As stated in the article wages are usually low and of course no benefits. Surely some must wonder what happens if they get a major illness or injury. What will they do in old age with no pension and little or no savings? Yes, it can be fun for a while but the future ~~ well there is none. One can build equity in real estate but only build depreciation in an RV.

    I agree with Sam’s comments. I am a full timer and i just don’t see a lot of M’s on the road. I am now in Yuma for the winter and in this park of 1000+ spaces i don’t see M’s in any prominent numbers. Nor did i see them in my travels thru the Mountain States and Texas. Only on weekends would I see Millennials and there friends descend upon the campgrounds. Just my own narrow view of the world.
