MONTPELIER, Vt. — The most hardcore Vermont campers claimed their favorite campsites long ago. A few people even set up lawn chairs outside the Vermont State Parks office in Montpelier, poised to make their reservation at the earliest possible moment 11 months in advance.
For everyone else, the online reservation system is open — and January is a good time to make summer camping plans.
“We have 2,200 campsites across the system, but some proportion of those are camp sites that are in particularly high demand,” said Craig Whipple, director of Vermont State Parks. “So the competition for those is pretty stiff and they go quickly.”
