WASHINGTON — Happy Groundhog Day, everyone!
For this auspicious day, I thought I’d dig out one of our favorite stories from our video vault: A visit Jennifer and I made to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania several years ago to witness the annual spectacle of a groundhog named Phil predicting the weather.
We were covering the event as media for Verizon Wireless that year and were able to talk the organizers into letting us drive the RV right up Gobbler’s Knob and spending the night there. While we slept comfortably, we were awoken early, about 3 AM, as 25,000 fans came to watch the event. For four hours in the dark as a chilly rain turned the field to mud, they partied and made quite a bit of noise.
