From the Edmonton Star:
EDMONTON, Alberta — In the midst of the January cold, most Edmontonians can’t wait to end their days bundled up in the warm indoors. But not Peter Burgess, who has been sleeping in a tent in Edmonton’s frigid river valley for five nights in a row now.
“Getting up is a chore,” the 53-year-old father said. Still, he gets up every morning in memory of his daughter, Elan, who died at the age of 3 in Edmonton’s Stollery Children’s Hospital in 2007.
This is Burgess’s third year of camping out in the cold for a week, with the goal of raising $15,00 dollars for the hospital that once cared for his youngest child. He has reached $12,000, with two days to go.
