Torklift’s Jack Kay describes opportunities in Podcast 236

This week’s guest is Jack Kay, the CEO of Torklift, a company headquartered in Kent, Wash., that has been providing a variety of products to the RV industry for more than 40 years.

The company works with manufacturers to alleviate customer pain points, as the company did in rolling out the Glow Step Revolution to make entering and exiting an RV easier and safer for people of all ages.

He said his mission is to lead the company to “boldly go where no other company has gone before,” and he cited work on developing the Fast Gun Turnbuckle as an example of how the firm changed the industry by changing the way truck campers are secured to trucks.

He describes some of the company’s most well-known products and explains how Torklift manages to stay on top of its game in the age of disruption.

Torklift conducts its research into what products to develop by simply listening as RV owners are describing their pain points in social media posts and on RV-related forums.

Jack Kay believes that opportunity in the RV industry is unlimited. All it takes is for companies to listen to what people are actually saying bugs them about products or verbalizing what they wish existed – and then go about making it a reality.

He is right that many of the opportunities have a limited shelf life and if one firm doesn’t jump at the chance to innovate, another company certainly will.

He recognizes that even though Torklift is an American company that makes its products in America, if RV companies don’t work to disrupt themselves, then others will come in and shake things up anyway. That’s the power of a global economy.

However, he suggests the greatest opportunity facing every company today is how firms deal with people they have contact with in the process of doing business.

Jack explains how he prioritizes the workload to capitalize on innovation and take advantage of what he says is boundless opportunity.

With that in mind, he offers his take on where the RV market is heading in the next 10 years, and hints at a new product to be released in less than 40 days. It is something he said will shake things up in the RV industry – again.
