KOA’s 2018 Care Camps Big Weekend event tops 2017 results

UNITED STATES — Campers kicked off the 2018 summer camping season at KOAs last weekend in huge numbers for the annual KOA Care Camps ‘Big Weekend’ event.

The annual event raises funds to support more than 125 specialized North American summer camps for children with cancer, and their siblings.

Camping check-ins for the May 11-12 Big Weekend event were up nearly 5 percent over the results from the Big Weekend last year. More than 400 KOA campgrounds in North America participated.

Campers who stayed as paying guests on May 11 received a night of camping on May 12 for just $20. The entire $20 fee is provided directly to the KOA Care Camps charity.

Kampgrounds of America is celebrating its 56th anniversary in 2018. KOA was born on the banks of the Yellowstone River in Billings, Montana in 1962 and has grown to include more than 500 locations in the United States and Canada.
