Jeff Grady promotes synergy between dealers, campgrounds in Podcast 219

This week’s show will touch several of target audiences – campgrounds, dealers and RV owners.

Jeff Grady is the president of Fleming Sales, a company based in Elkhart, which represents suppliers that produce products that RV manufacturers use to build their motorhomes and travel trailers. RV dealers carry many of the products, too.

The company also manufactures some power and slide-out trays for the RV industry.

About 15 years ago, Grady’s company launched Outdoors Limited to sell products directly to consumers and campground owners.

He offers some ideas for ways RV dealers can develop synergy with campground owners to serve their common customers, not only through education, but through selling and promoting lifestyle products.

Grady sees a need and real desire for consumers to get back to the basics of getting outdoors and relaxing.

By utilizing social media more, dealers and campgrounds have a better opportunity to catch the attention of people traveling into the areas they serve.

Grady discusses the movement toward event camping, and suggests ways for dealers and campgrounds to work together to tap into these big regional events, whether they are concerts, fairs, or community events.

He also sees a real opportunity for dealers to work with seasonal campers, who may not visit a retail center as often as RV owners who travel for adventure. Mobile repair is a golden opportunity to RV dealers that would be recession-proof.

Many people know this type of service or synergy would be successful, but few embrace probably due to tie constraints and staffing.

If dealers and campgrounds could work together more often, everyone would win.

RVers would benefit from enhanced services, dealers would benefit from more repair or product sales income, and campground owners would benefit with more frequent or longer stays.

When it comes to education, the idea of doing product seminars at campgrounds is worth exploring. Dealers or campgrounds would sell more products on site if people know how they worked and had an opportunity to test the products before buying.

Combine product education with maintenance that can be done at the campground, and customers will really welcome the opportunity to get little things taken care of without requiring a separate trip to the dealership.
