By early March, 32 full-hookup campsites with a dump station and six group campsites will be open and ready for campers, according to Park Supervisor Randy Denter. The 38 new sites will add to the 16 primitive sites the park opened with in 2018. All are first-come, first-served.
A conceptual plan posted online this month in response to the ongoing environmental assessment shows the site with 542 serviced campsites, a drop from up to 700 sites previously proposed.
“Given the fact that 80 percent of advertisers find it worthwhile to advertise in our guest guides, we know that we are raising the visibility of campgrounds and RV parks as economic engines in their communities,” said Schaeffer.
“We were a little busier this summer, but the areas where we saw the biggest growth was in the spring and fall,” Oregon Parks and Recreation Department spokesman Chris Havel said. “Expanding capacity and adding more places to camp, especially on the coast, is one of our top priorities.”
