VA: County approves Union Hall campground

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. — The zoning debate over whether Franklin County should allow Camp Reel Simple to open at Magnum Point Marina has been anything but simple.

After considering additional conditions and legal issues at its Feb. 19 meeting, the Board of Supervisors voted 5-1-1 to approve a special-use permit for the proposed campground and RV park off Old Salem School Road in the Union Hall district.

Bob Camicia, supervisor for Gill’s Creek, voted against the permit. Mike Carter, supervisor for Rocky Mount, abstained from voting because of a perceived conflict of interest. The rest of the board voted yes.
