ROCK MOUNT, Va. — Status quos frequently fall rather than merely wobble, but there are those who would have them stand in perpetuity. This is especially so with regard to the crowd known under the acronym NIMBY, which might soon give way to NIABY – changing from Not In My Back Yard to Not In Anyone’s Back Yard.
A campground and RV park seems harmless enough, hardly the kind of development like power plants, nuclear reactors and prisons that gave rise to NIMBYs of old. But South Lake Motor Sports’ plans to open Camp Reel Simple on Smith Mountain Lake in Union Hall have stirred neighbors.
