S.D.: Campgrounds might have to pay for emergency services

STURGIS S.D. — For Meade County, both the ambulance and the fire department have thousands of dollars of annual loss left unpaid from calls during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Currently, Meade County ambulance and fire funding come from the city of Sturgis. These agencies cover more than 20 percent of Meade County.

In 2017 and 2018 the agencies lost more than $250,000 in uncollected bills. To try and recoup some of the loss, the city is considering making campgrounds pay for the number of calls coming into their area.
