S.D. campground burglaries believed to be related

CHAMBERLAIN, S.D. — Area law enforcement is seeking information on a string of burglaries at campgrounds along Interstate 90 late Tuesday, Oct. 1 into early Wednesday, Oct. 2, reports the Chamberlain Oacoma Sun.

Cash was stolen from the American Creek Campground office in Chamberlain and the Oasis Campground office in Oacoma, says the Chamberlain Oacoma Sun. Suspects stole hand tools from the office at Cedar Shore Campground and attempted to break into a deposit box at Happy Campers Campground in Chamberlain.

In Kimball, Police Chief Frank Scott said a burglary attempt was made at the campground, though nothing was stolen.

The Chamberlain Oacoma Sun reports that the Mitchell Police Department released security video images of a purple van, which was in the lot of the R&R Campground office on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Money was taken and a window was damaged.
