KY: Burnside Island Campground slated for upgrades

SOMERSET, Ky. — It may not be a lodge, but General Burnside Island does have some improvements coming its way.

The state park was included in an announcement earlier this month by Governor Matt Bevin for phase II of the commonwealth’s “Refreshing the Finest” initiative that was launched in 2016.

At that time, $18 million in maintenance and operational improvements was allocated for the Kentucky State Parks system — with priority given to the 17 resort parks. As a result, some 133 projects are nearly complete and have resulted in a $7.6 million revenue boost between 2016 and 2018.
