GA: Booking system makes for some unhappy campers

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannahian Mike Kossman and his wife paddled the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge recently, camping on platforms in the swamp, surrounded by a wilderness of tupelo, cypress and alligators. It’s a $15 per person per night priceless adventure they wanted to repeat. But when they tried to book a return trip for Christmastime, Kossman found that the new national online booking system doesn’t work for the Okefenokee.

At recreation.gov, his request for a booking was met with the response “This campground is currently not available to be reserved online.”
