From Pensacola News Journal:
Jeff Edgar and his family from Allen, Ill., headed to Gulf Islands National Seashore on a recent afternoon to tour historic Fort Pickens, but the vacationing group was disappointed to find the entrance gate locked and the park closed.
“We didn’t know it was part of the shutdown,” Edgar said as the family huddled in the parking lot and discussed alternate plans for their afternoon in Pensacola after Gulf Islands National Seashore, its campgrounds, roads and other amenities remain closed.
“We hope this shutdown will be solved soon. If it lasts very long, we are going to have some real worries,” said Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson, who noted the Gulf Islands are an important part of the area’s tourism-driven economy.
