East Grand Forks, Minn. leaders seek state funds for campground

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — Mayor Lynn Stauss and all seven council members placed the campground atop its wish list at Tuesday’s work session, reports the Grand Forks Herald, noting the move came after Stauss touted consensus from city representatives in pitches to legislators, warning that “if we’re not united, we won’t get anything.”

The newspaper says when East Grand Forks asks the Minnesota Legislature for help this session, its priority will be an expansion of the Red River State Recreational Area campground.

According to the the Grand Forks Herald, the campground, which experienced record revenues in 2012, has 25 spaces that don’t have utilities and more than 100 spaces with utilities, and lots with utilities for recreational vehicles each cost $8,000 to $10,000 to build.
