PITTSFORD, N.Y. — This season marks the 4th season that Campground Owners of New York (CONY) is fundraising to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times, by selling paper balloons, collecting change, and holding special events. In fact, the organization said it has formally adopted Camp Good Days as its official charity.
Camp Good Days and Special Times is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life threatening challenges. It was founded by Gary Mervis in 1979 following the diagnosis of his youngest daughter, Teddi, with a malignant brain tumor. What was started to provide Teddi and 62 other children with cancer (from Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse) with a residential camping experience, has grown, providing thousands of campers from 22 states and 29 foreign countries with residential camping programs on the shores of Keuka Lake in New York’s scenic Finger Lakes Region, as well year-round recreational and support activities and events.
CONY President and CEO Don Bennett, Jr. was on hand at a press conference held on April 8, 2015, at the Rochester Plaza Hotel, along with Gary Mervis and two members of Congress, as it was announced that the Clinical Trials Cancer Mission 2020 Act has been reintroduced into the 114th Session of Congress.
H.R. Bill 617 emphasizes the importance of reporting in clinical trial experiments. “Research that fails is just as important as research that succeeds,” stated Mervis. “This legislation is aimed specifically at researchers that conduct experiments with federal grant money. We want to make sure that every researcher has access to every clinical trial attempted, so that they can make alterations and adjustments in hopes of developing a cure,” said Mervis.
Mervis, along with Don Bennett, of Campground Owners of New York¸ announced that CONY campgrounds in New York State would be carrying Cancer Mission 2020 petitions and collecting signatures to try to aid in its efforts to end cancer by the end of the decade.
“CONY is excited to partner with Cancer Mission 2020 and raise awareness for this great cause,” said Bennett. “With over 200 campgrounds, we have our goal set very high for signatures this summer.”
We invite you to sign the petition in support of Cancer Mission 2020 when you visit a CONY campground this summer.
