AUBURN, Calif. — As winter snows blanket the High Sierra and other mountain areas across California, the thought of a weekend getaway in a cozy mountain cabin comes to mind.

But where can you find them?

One place to check is, which recently added a search function to help people find campgrounds with the kind of cabins they’re looking for, whether its a rustic unit with bunk beds, a cozy cabin with a river-rock fireplace or gas-fired stove or a luxurious glamping cabin all of the comforts of home.

“Cabin camping is growing in popularity, so we’re trying to do what we can to help people find just what they’re looking for,” said Debbie Sipe, executive director and CEO of the California Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, which hosts and produces the award-winning printed campground directory, Camp-California! The Camper’s Guide to California.

Sipe noted that fully furnished, heated cabins are available in many campgrounds across California in the winter months, from suburban San Diego County to the fog shrouded redwood forests of Big Sur and beyond.

“There are campgrounds with cabin rentals within an hour or two of just about every major city in California,” Sipe said, adding, “Many of them have their own fireplaces, which are perfect for a romantic getaway. Many campgrounds also offer families cabins with fully equipped kitchens and sleeping lofts for the kids.”
