She and her husband, James, bought the facility last year and manage it year-round with their three children. Fugitt explains why they decided to get out of pediatric oncology – or treating kids with cancer – and get into the campground industry instead. She explains why they settled on acquiring a KOA franchise versus a privately-owned campground. She also talks about what she learned at KOA University that has helped her prepare for the challenges she faced as new business owners who were brand new to the outdoor hospitality industry.

(March 15, 2018) — After months of trying to get our SimpliSafe home security system to work, more calls to their tech support people that I could begin to count, where they insisted I jump through one hoop after another, replacing the network card, and trying four or five different base stations, nothing worked and they finally agreed to take it back and refund my money.

(March 15, 2018) — Like all solar powered items, solar heated showers can be very useful when you’re boondocking off-the-grid. They’re easy to use: simply fill them up, leave them out in the sun for a few hours, and then hang them from a tree when they’re ready.

(March 15, 2018) — One other thing of note happened while our caravan of five was at Oak Flat Campground near Castaic, CA. We had to call the cops on one of our neighbors.

(March 15, 2018) — I’ve seen pics of the Jayco Hummingbird 10RK for a couple month, but up until now hadn’t heard much about it. Today, Jayco officially introduced the 10RK, what I like to call a “box drop” trailer.

(March 15, 2018) — The campground sits on the edge of Lake o’ the Pines in Marion County and is a popular destination for campers. A Saturday night storm brought strong winds and heavy rains to the area, resulting in the death of 40-year-old Mary Pinney.
