Three KOA campgrounds earn Kamp Green Award

AUSTIN, Texas — Three KOA campgrounds were honored today for leading the way in 2013 in Kampgrounds of America’s Kamp Green Program. The three campgrounds were all honored during the second day of the annual KOA International Convention being held this year in Austin, Texas. Barrie KOA in Barrie, Ontario, was recognized for an innovative electronics recycling program that invited campers and the public to bring in outdated electronic devices for recycling. The funds collected from the recycling center were donated to the KOA Care Camps for children with cancer charity. Amy and Tom Raposo own that campground. Naples/Marco Island KOA in Naples, Fla., received recognition for a new solar exchange system that uses the power of the sun to provide electrical service to the campground. The system also heats and cools the campground’s swimming pool. The campground is owned by Ted and Anita Mangels. The Twin Mountain KOA in Twin Mountain, N.H., was also recognized for a custom bin recycling program that uses specially designed collection bins that encourage campers to separate and recycle their metal, paper and plastics. The campground is owned by Tyson and Barbara Taylor. The Kamp Green program is in its fourth year and 21 new campgrounds participated in the program designed to promote recycling and protecting the environment. Read More »

Nine KOA campgrounds honored for customer service

(Nov. 21, 2013) -- Susan and Ron Hart, owners of the Fredericksburg/Washington, D.C., South KOA, earned the company's highest honor when recognized as the KOA Kampground of the Year. KOA convention attendees plant trees in Texas

(Nov. 21, 2013) -- Nearly 100 KOA campground owners and managers from throughout North America spent their first day at the KOA Convention planting more than 3,000 tree seedlings near Bastrop, Texas. Two years ago, the area was devastated by the Bastrop County Complex Fire, which burned 34,000 acres of land, destroyed 1,600 homes and killed two people. Read More »
