Escapees reports phishing scam targeting members

LIVINGSTON, Texas — Last week, the staff at Escapees became aware that illicit actors sent an email attempting to scam its members in what is called a “phishing” scam. These illicit actors sent emails that appeared to come from clubbusiness@escapees.com. The text of email requested that the members update their credit card information on their Paypal account. These illicit actors only accessed a database of email addresses. Escapees found no evidence that they accessed any other information, such as phone numbers or physical addresses. “Please know that we do not store your credit card information; nor, would we send you an email requesting your credit card information,” said Shawn Loring, Escapees CEO. “Moreover, we would never send you a request to update your credit card information at another company like Paypal.” “It is important to note that we take cyber security very seriously. As such, we are working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to supply them with information about this scam,” he added. Escapees encourages people to visit the Department of Homeland Security website to find tools to help protect against phishing scams and other types of cyber-attacks by visiting https://www.dhs.gov/stopthinkconnect-toolkit.
