Podcast 201 addresses campground guides with AGS

This week we will focus on the outdoor hospitality industry and whether print advertising remains a cost-effective solution for campgrounds and RV parks.

The guest is Brian Schaeffer, the president of Texas Advertising and AGS, which is based in Crowley, Texas. The companies work to develop websites for campgrounds as well as professional site maps and guest directories.

Schaeffer’s company works with thousands of campgrounds throughout America and Canada. The firm also works as an advisor to many state campground associations.

He’ll describe why it is so important for campgrounds to convey a professional image and how the companies can utilize relationships with other local firms to provide guests with the information they want when they arrive in the area.

Schaeffer will explain why the idea that print is dead doesn’t apply to campgrounds once people arrive in the local area looking for things to do and places to eat.

We have talked to Brian Schaeffer several times in the past when researching articles about the outdoor hospitality industry. As the executive director of the Texas Association of Campground Owners, he is exceptionally knowledgeable about issues impacting the camping industry today.

When he says that print is not dead, he is absolutely right especially when it comes to guest guides and travel brochures. Yes, a lot of research can be done online. But, when families arrive into an unfamiliar area, the campground staff becomes the experts. Their recommendations carry a lot of weight.

Many campers reply the campground guide for information about local business, and especially services available at the park. A campground map and guest guide are two essential pieces of information that every guest needs to have.

Campgrounds and RV parks are encouraged to reach out to Brian Schaeffer and his crew at Texas Advertising and AGS for help in producing top-notch printed directories for guests, as well as brochures for distribution at tourist centers and other local businesses.

Texas Advertising and AGS will be exhibiting at several upcoming industry conferences so be sure to look for their booth. Those include:

  • ARVC 2018 Outdoor Hospitality Conference & Expo – Nov. 5-8
  • Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Symposium and Trade Show – Nov. 5-8
  • KOA Expo – Nov. 12-15
  • Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association Convention and Trade Show – Dec. 2-5

(Nov. 16, 2018) -- KOA President Toby O'Rourke says the RV and outdoor hospitality industries have a bright future, and elaborates on how the RV industry plays into that long-term success. She offers evidence to deflect fears people may have following two consecutive months of RV shipment declines. She also explains why the guest experience is the most important thing driving revenue in the RV and outdoor hospitality industries. Technology is important, she notes, but it is the experience that keeps people using RVs and vising campgrounds.
