What to know before going camping in California

(April 14, 2016) -- For many of California’s state parks, as well as the national ones, camping isn’t as simple as setting down a tent and enjoying all that Mother Nature has to offer. There are rules.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — So you’re going camping. Your backpack, tent, food and other amenities are packed. You’re ready to go, right? Well, not necessarily.

Did you make your reservation? What about permits? Do you know how much money you’ll need for camping fees?

For many of California’s state parks, as well as the national ones, camping isn’t as simple as setting down a tent and enjoying all that Mother Nature has to offer. There are rules.

Before setting off on the next epic adventure into the great unknown, be sure to check these must-haves before you go. This is just a selection. Be sure to check the U.S. Forest Service website to learn more about accessibility, roadway passes and other permits you may need.
