(Jan. 12, 2018) -- To help state residents offset some of the gas tax increase, South Carolina will allow taxpayers to deduct gas purchases or preventative car maintenance costs on their income tax returns.

South Carolina drivers can get tax credits for gas

GREENVILLE, S.C. — If you don’t mind the extra effort, saving your gas receipts this year could help at tax time next year.

To help state residents offset some of the gas tax increase, South Carolina will allow taxpayers to deduct gas purchases or preventative car maintenance costs on their income tax returns.

The credit will be applied to 2018 South Carolina individual income taxes, which are filed in 2019, according to the state Department of Revenue.
