Roadtreking: Waco is a fixer upper town worth a visit

WASHINGTON — I confess. Waco, Texas was not on MY bucket list.

But it was on Jennifer’s. And, judging by the crowds we found there, it seems to be on the bucket list of just about every other women in America, too.

The reason we went to Waco is because of Joanna and Chip Gaines, stars of the HGTV series “Fixer Upper.”

Waco is where they call home and their influence and popularity has transformed this proud Texas town and made it a huge tourist destination. The Fixer Upper effect draws 20,000 tourists to Waco every week. Waco is now the second most searched zip code online. Hotels and RV parks are booked solid weeks in advance and for miles around.
