Ontario: Close call with lightning for campers at Silent Lake

(July 11, 2017) -- After her family's campsite was struck by lightning Friday, Tonya Kraan doesn't see herself pitching a tent anytime in the future.

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — After her family’s campsite was struck by lightning Friday, Tonya Kraan doesn’t see herself pitching a tent anytime in the future.

“I know I wouldn’t be able to fall asleep in a campground ever again,” she said.

The Ennismore resident was camping with family and friends in Silent Lake Provincial Park, near Apsley, over the weekend when lightning struck a tree six metres from her tent.
