Love Your RV: Why we are buying a new truck

WASHINGTON — In this video, I go into detail about why I’m not fixing our old 1994 Ford F350 and buying a brand new truck instead.

If you saw my previous video – Sad News Our Old Blue Ford Truck is Toast you’ll notice a lot of the YouTube commenters thought I should be repairing old Blue. Even though it looks like the engine needs major repairs or a replacement.

  1. Ray,

You should carefully consider this. New is a racket. We pondered this several years back, we really did. We have a 1996 7.3L F350 SRW.

We got approved for a loan 60K for a new one, then we did some serious looking around. You know what we found? Nothing good, Nothing it was all a racket, most of the crap is tied up in infotainment, it cant be bypassed, it costs 30K or more additional because of the mandantory tech packages, and its just a bad deal all the way around. Also, forget about fixing anything on it, or picking out your own mechanic because they make you sign a DRM on the vehicles now, which concludes your “right to repair” in other words you have no right to repair this vehicle any longer, in other words, you no longer are considered an owner but a lessor. even if they call it “buying” .

If you are going to buy something else, you should go no further than 2005/2006 model year. You could buy at the tail end of the 7.3’s and still come out ahead if you wanted, 2002/2003 model year prior to the 6.0 L release(stay away from those) head over the chevry sierra 2003/2004/2005 HD versions, they will run 13K-16K give or take.

We scrapped the idea of a loan and put about 20K into our truck instea of buying new or buying used. Our Rig is a 2004 Fleetwood Wilderness Advantage AX6 GVWR 13,500. we do just fine.

    take care.
