Escapees plan Balloon Fiesta HOP

LIVINGSTON, Texas — Each morning, as dawn breaks over the beautiful Sandia Mountains, imagine watching as the skies are filled with bright and vivid colors as 600 hot-air balloons from all over the world hover overhead.

Escapees members can join their friends for a Balloon Fiesta HOP Oct. 2 to 11 at what is considered the most photographed and largest hot-air balloon festival in the world, the release noted.

For the first time, Escapees will offer three price options for the Balloon Fiesta Head Out Program. For more information, click here.

The dawn patrol lifts off first to observe the weather conditions. Once they give their approval, the balloons lift off in mass ascension. The “zebras,” dressed in black and white, coordinate the launching of these balloons. With 600 balloons in the air at one time, it is truly a spectacular display of color, according to the release.

The balloon fiesta will consist of the traditional shapes, but the most popular part of the balloon launches are the special-shape balloons, also having beautiful, vivid colors but different shapes and sizes. Among the most famous special shapes are the stagecoach, the milk cow, the dog and fire hydrant and the mother, daddy, and baby bumblebees.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is unique. It’s the only place in the world where “the box” effect comes into play when the balloons are in the air, the release explained. The “box” is wind patterns that can help navigate the balloons in a box formation and allows the balloonists to stay in the air for a longer period of time.

At dusk, participants can see the burners of the balloons when they are ignited and the evening sky fills with a bouquet of bright colors. The night will finish with a remarkable display of fireworks.

The Escapees will offer boondock camping, a private tent for inclement weather, games, and catered breakfasts and dinners each day. Participants will also be treated to a special talk by an experienced hot-air balloon pilot.
