Opinion: Would Jesus say your assignment is unfinished?

By Greg Gerber

In Revelation 3:1b-3 Jesus has a warning for the church in Sardis, but it might as well have been a warning specifically for me.

“I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.”

As I was laying in bed watching a movie the first night back from the Labor Day weekend, and at the end of another unproductive day, I got up to address the frequent calling of my aging prostate. But, when my feet hit the floor, I had trouble walking.

I made it into bed just fine an hour earlier. But when I stepped out, I began experiencing the signs of stroke as I lost function in my entire right side. It was a vivid reminder of how Jesus can come like a thief when we least expect it.

  1. Greg.

I too am on this path. Bravo that you have reengaged and working on making good on he promises you made to God. We never know when He is going to awaken us through any number of ways that bring us closer to Him. You’ve had your moment. Mine was in 2002 when my marriage went through very troubled waters and then again in 2008 when the great recession threatening to take our then 38 year old family business and put it to ruin. He called me to wake up in both of these difficult times. I have been awaken and am solidly on the path. It is a work in process building a relationship with Jesus but I grow ever day in Him and pray daily for others to wake up as well. We do not know the day or time He will come. There’s simply no time to waste.
Thanks for sharing this Greg. I do hope others will read this and wake up. You are truly on the path to fulling you promise!

  2. Greg I enjoy the verses from the Bible that you shared.
God’s word is alive and powerful. As a Christian we all needed to be reminded how short our time is on this earth. To focus daily on His word and be ready for the Spirit to guide us in His plan and His timing.
I ask you to pray for me and my wife as we are now full time newbies in traveling and living in our fifth wheel.
I ask for needed prayer’s for the hardships that we may encountered as we travel the country. May it be in sharing my faith and the challenges that I may encounter with others. I ask for prayers for the strength to grow in my faith in keeping it strong when it seems hopeless. To not only have faith in myself but always keeping my faith growing in God.
Jesus has always been there for me. It was His foot prints on the sand not my when I was l lost and He carried me.

    In Jesus Name,
Thank you brothers and sisters for your love
