OTTAWA, Ontario -- With the Canada Day long weekend ahead, Canadians of all ages are renting or buying recreational vehicles to head out on the road or into the woods and bring the comforts of home along with them. RV vacations are flexible, economical choices for people that want to experience the outdoors.
Go RVing Canada is pleased to share its top five tips for a successful summer RV experience as travelers go out this Canada Day long weekend:
1. Think about what you want your RV to do: What kind of climate will you be traveling in? Do you expect to do a lot of highway driving or go to remote locations off the beaten path? Will you be making long trips or short ones? Your local RV dealer will be able to find the right RV for you if you have these questions answered.
2. Don't break the bank: If you're thinking of buying an RV, they start as low as $6,000 and the price of an overnight full-service campground stay is $25-$45. An RV vacation can be up to 75 percent cheaper versus a regular vacation so take some time for yourself and your family without worrying about your wallet.
3. Go somewhere unique: 90 percent of RV owners say that their number one priority is seeing the country, and an RV is a great way to do it. Drive Saskatchewan's Louis Riel Trail and see a tale from our country's history, or visit Tofino, B.C. and stop off at the World's Largest Hockey Stick and Puck in Duncan on the way there.
4. Be flexible: Prepare for campgrounds that range from having full utility hookups to no hookups whatsoever.
5. Be social: 40 percent of RV owners have children and campgrounds are a great place for kids to run and play with one another with their parents' supervision. You can also meet people at campgrounds from all over the world that have come to see Canada's natural splendor.
