New Zealand: Mayors calling for tourism levy

(May 3, 2017) -- Six southern mayors, frustrated with "irresponsible campers", are appealing to the Prime Minister to support a tourism levy.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Six southern mayors, frustrated with “irresponsible campers”, are appealing to the Prime Minister to support a tourism levy.

A letter, drafted by Central Otago District Council Mayor Tim Cadogan, was sent to Prime Minister Bill English on Tuesday.

The districts were “bending under the weight of problems caused by irresponsible campers”, Cadogan wrote.
