Volkswagen to supply engines for Navistar

FRANKFURT, Germany — Volkswagen’s trucks division is close to announcing a partnership with U.S.-based rival Navistar International, three sources told Reuters, in the latest example of a deal driven by emissions regulations.

Volkswagen has agreed to supply engines to Navistar in exchange for a 19.9 percent stake in the truckmaker, one of the sources, who declined to be named, told Reuters.

The financial burden of developing next generation engines to meet new emissions standards is forcing several vehicle makers to pursue partnerships and technology deals.

What do you think? Will the next generation of motorhomes include Volkswagen engines to comply with new emissions rules announced last month by the Environmental Protection Agency?

Based on the expensive emissions cheating scandal that Volkswagen is still paying for, I wouldn’t trust them to build an engine for a Radio Flyer wagon. I hope Navistar doesn’t get burned on this deal.

    • Blah blah blah. All VW did was make software that tricks the emissions machine honestly how much will that impact the environment for crying out loud. Vw makes motors for Bentley. I bet GM and Ford have done worse they just havnt been caught.

  2. Good Grief. After what VW pulled regarding emissions in the recent past I would have to think twice before forming up with them. They did not make any points in the us market with their emissions hi jinks. Makes you wonder what they got on Navistar.
