Volkswagen plans celebration for 70 years

(May 17, 2017) -- The celebration is to mark the seventieth anniversary of the drawing of the first sketch of the Bulli by Dutch motor dealer, Bernardus Pon in 1947.

BOURNE, England — Volkswagen is planning a summer birthday bash for the iconic “Bulli” – the world’s first campervan base vehicle, according to Out and About Live.

Actually the celebration is to mark the seventieth anniversary of the drawing of the first sketch of the Bulli by Dutch motor dealer, Bernardus Pon in 1947.

His sketches were used as the basis for the original Transporter design – officially, the T1 – that was, among other things, converted into a campervan and, as a result, established the link between campervans and Volkswagen that is as strong today as it was back then.
