SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Two growing businesses – Fire and Marine and Fontaine Modification Center – now occupy a building that had been vacant near the Navistar International campus in Springfield, reports the Springfield News Sun.
After years of growth, locally owned Fire and Marine Inc. moved into the former Fontaine Modification Center building in December. Fontaine Modification, a Navistar contractor, had left Springfield in early 2011 to move to Garland, Texas, but returned in December when the Springfield Navistar plant gained work from Garland, says the Springfield News Sun.
The Navistar plant in Garland will close in the summer, and the production will be split between the Springfield plant and one in Escobedo, Mexico.
“The Navistar people have just been wonderful to work with,” said Will Trantham, president of Fontaine Modification. “They welcomed us back, and we have a great working relationship with the plant and Navistar corporate, and that has just been fantastic.”
