Thor Motor Coach diesel models shown in Pomona

ELKHART, Ind. — The California RV show in Pomona hosted a retailing show for the Tuscany, Tuscany XTE and Palazzo lines of diesel motorhomes from Thor Motor Coach.

“From every perspective, our diesel motorhomes were the buzz in Pomona.  I think the retail public has really seen the advances we have made in the overall function and design of our motorhomes.  From top to bottom, the Thor Motor Coach line-up is the best in the business,” claimed Chris Carter, product manager for Thor Motor Coach.

The Palazzo was well received in the Mike Thompson’s RV display, according to Thor Motor Coach. TMC’s Palazzo motorhomes provides first-time diesel buyers or seasoned veterans looking for livable luxury.

The newest 36.2 floor plan includes an innovative laundry room. This new 36-foot model is powered by a Cummins ISB diesel engine, providing 340-hp. The shorter models, 33.2 and 33.3, are choices for those needing smaller size with big amenities.

In the Giant RV display, the Tuscany 40DX made its California debut featuring fully-reclining theater seating and retractable 60-inch LED Smart HDTV.

“We’re finding that owners want smaller Class A diesels with all the luxuries found in the larger tag-axle models,” said Adam Gudger, national sales manager for class A diesels. “The new 40DX is our answer. We implemented feedback from current owners into this new floor plan and we’re excited to get it out to the public.”

There is high-gloss cabinetry in the Tuscany XTE.  The new Milan Cherry and Resort Cherry cabinets are all solid hardwood.  Other residential features are the LG Hi-Macs solid surface countertops, porcelain tile floors, Whirlpool appliances and Sony electronics.

  1. The Thor line is beautiful but have they solved the slide out issues? Almost bought one but after reading lots of reviews and speaking to others I decided against it. So my question is ‘have they fixed the slide problem? ‘

    • Ms. Farrar, thank you so much for asking. My name is Jon Krider and I lead our product planning at Thor Motor Coach.

We feel very confident that the issues that showed up in some of our slide room applications earlier in the year, have been rectified. We had some challenges that we faced with larger rooms on some of our models. While these issues did not affect every motor home, the issues were real and we appreciate the opportunity to speak to that.

The rack system that many people refer to as a Lippert Schwintek is the mechanism that we use, and we have worked with Lippert to help improve the design to fit our specific application. If you take a look at new units, you will see our new “3-Traxx” system on the very large slide rooms. This new system is co-developed with Lippert to provide the strength and rigidity needed to support the largest of rooms.

The “3-Traxx” system takes the initial concept and evolves the design. At triple rack system on each side of the rooms ensures more pulling and pushing capacity, with more of the load being spread over a wider area. Also, the motors for the room are a 500:1 ratio rotating a full steel shaft, which provides more torque to move the side room. The floor has a combination of standard and adjustable rollers that support the floor of the slide room.

We are confident that the design evolution has alleviated concerns related to slide rooms.

If you have any other questions about the product please feel free to e-mail me. Thank you again!!

      • Hi Jon,
