Swiss campsites report a drop in overnight stays

(July 18, 2016) -- Because of the exchange rate changes, in recent years there was a sharp decline in guests from the neighboring countries, explained Erwin Oberascher, Operator of the Austrian travel portal Camping.info.

CHESHIRE, England — In 2009, there were 423 campsites offering their services in Switzerland and they recorded 3.6 million overnight stays.

However, because of the exchange rate changes, in recent years there was a sharp decline in guests from the neighboring countries, explained Erwin Oberascher, Operator of the Austrian travel portal Camping.info.

“The proportion of domestic guests at Swiss campsites is increasing every year and already represents 71 percent while in 2014 it was 64 percent. The most important groups of foreign guests are Germans with 13 percent (16 percent in 2014) and Dutch with 7 percent (11 percent in 2014),” said Mr. Oberascher.
