Editor’s note: We’ve been having issues in scheduling stories in WordPress, the software upon which RV Daily Report is built. By the time the story was posted last Friday, it was too late to appear in that day’s newsletter. However, a number of people must have found it on our website because it was one of the most-read stories of the week. Since it never appeared in a daily edition of the newsletter, and the content is very good, we are publishing it today.

We start podcast episode 61 in Grand Rapids, Mich., at the home of Statistical Surveys. Company President Tom Walworth joins the show to describe the critical role data plays in helping RV deaers and manufacturers make better decisions on markets to pursue.

The RV industry’s “data man,” Walworth’s team provides the other half of the market report. Where the RV Industry Association compiles a monthly statement showing how many RVs have been shipped to dealers from manufacturers, Statistical surveys shows how many of those RVs have been sold and in what markets, down to the zip code.

Manufacturers embrace this data because it shows where sales reps need to concentrate their effort to boost sales in areas where competitors may be enjoying more success. RV dealers relish the Statistical Surveys data because it shows which competitors are selling into their markets and, more importantly, markets they could penetrate or improve with more marketing.

The second guest is Ravi Parikh, the president of RoverPass, a new website set to rock the outdoor hospitality industry by pushing reservation requests directly to campgrounds by phone, e-mail or fax in real time.

RVers looking for a place to stay while traveling can visit the site to read reviews of parks, learn of the amenities they offer and where it is located on map. Should they desire to book a reservation, they simply press a button to relay all their profile information, such as name, phone number, rig size and length of stay directly to the campground.

Campground owners can immediately convey availability and pricing by sending back a text message or calling the guests directly. It takes the hassle out of finding an appropriate campground and making reservations.
