SSI: Canadian towable sales gain 14.9 percent in May

(July 14, 2017) -- Year-over-year Canadian towable sales rose 14.9 percent in May, while gaining 6 percent for the first five months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI). Travel trailer sales grew 16 percent in May while showing a 7.5 percent increase year-to-date.

CANADA — Year-over-year Canadian towable sales rose 14.9 percent in May, while gaining 6 percent for the first five months, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

Results by segment showed:

  • Travel trailer sales grew 16 percent in May while showing a 7.5 percent increase year-to-date.
  • Canadian fifth-wheel sales soared 15.6 percent for the month and edged up 1.9 percent through May.
  • Folding camping trailer registrations fell 6.4 percent in May and 6.3 percent year-to-date.
  • Eight park model RVs were shipped for the month.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towable sales leader through May with a 56.3 percent market share, ahead of Forest River Inc. which notched a 33 percent share.

Thor was the leader in travel trailer sales for the five months, gaining a 57.2 percent market share, followed by Forest River (33.1 percent). Thor was No. 1 in Canadian fifth-wheel sales, capturing a 58.9 percent market share, followed by Forest River (25.2 percent) and Grand Design RV Co. (10.5 percent).

Forest River led year-to-date Canadian folding camping trailer sales with a 68.1 percent market share while Thor posted a 21.9 percent share.
