Southern RV CEO changes story, dealership now Camping World

BOSSIER CITY, La. — After initially denying the report last week, Jim Hicks, CEO of Southern RV Supercenters, told RV Daily Report today that, yes, his four dealerships have now been acquired by Camping World.

RV Daily Report published a story Jan. 5 claiming the sale was final and that employees had confirmed the Southern RV Supercenters were technically being run as Camping World locations. However, as soon as the newsletter was published that day, Hicks told Editor Greg Gerber in an e-mail that no transaction has taken place.

“Your report is inaccurate. Southern RV has not been purchased by Camping World,” said Hicks.

Then, two days later, Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis told the Bossier Press that he had acquired Southern RV.

Finally, today, Hicks changed his story and confirmed the dealership had, indeed, been acquired by Camping World.

The industry’s worst-kept secret of the year — so far — is finally real news.
