RV Dealers Con/Expo to include Mini RV Rental School

FAIRFAX, Va. — A Mini RV Rental School will be offered as a two-part session and is open to all dealership personnel attending the 2018 RV Dealers Convention/Expo at Paris Las Vegas, Nevada, on Nov. 6.

Part one is designed for dealers who are interested in exploring or re-entering the RV rental business. Part two is dedicated to dealers already in the rental business and who are looking for specific “next steps” to reach the million-dollar plateau in rental income. The Mini Rental School is sponsored by the Recreation Vehicle Rental Association (RVRA) in partnership with MBA Insurance.

“Your Rental Department: RVing for the Other 76 Million Households” and “Three Easy Steps to a $1,000,000 Rental Department” will feature rental experts from all aspects of the business who will share the steps that rental dealers follow daily to use people, dealership processes, and available products to create and expand on a successful operation. Attendees will learn the areas of the rental business that are “must haves” to be profitable, simple, and efficient. Convention registration is available for RVDA members at the discounted early bird registration rate through June 30.

The lineup of speakers includes successful rental business operators and legal professionals who can help dealers navigate the details of getting a rental business from concept to reality to profit center.

Presenters of the Mini Rental School:

Martin Onken is president of Expedition Motor Homes in southern California. In addition to owning and managing two dealerships in southern CA for the past 19 years, he also trains and consults third parties to open and operate successful RV rental dealerships and departments. Martin is a frequent RVDA workshop presenter, a current instructor at the annual MBA RV Rental School, a contributor of rental specific articles for industry magazines, and a 15-year member & past chair of the RV Rental Success 20 Group.

Scott Krenek, owner of Krenek RV Center in Coloma, MI, has an extensive background in the RV rental business, especially in towables, and is chairman of the RV Rental Association. An owner and operator for more than 35 years, he was instrumental in starting the industry’s first 20 Group focused exclusively on helping dealers improve their rental operations. Krenek has also served as an instructor at the RV Dealers International Convention/Expo and the annual RV Rental School organized by MBA Insurance.

Leslie Pujo, Esq., practices vehicle and rental law at Plave Koch PLC. She counsels on vehicle rental regulatory compliance and rental agreements for operators of all sizes and types, including local, airport, franchised, and car sharing operations. She is a frequent speaker on vehicle rental and franchising legal issues at the IFA Legal Symposium, the Car Rental Show, the RV Dealers Convention/Expo, and the MBA Insurance Rental School.

In addition to the Mini Rental School there will be three rental-specific educational workshops. The first workshop, “RV Rental Law 5.0: Top Ten Ways to Stay Legally Compliant While Adapting to Changes in the Marketplace and Technology,” will be presented by Leslie Pujo, Esq. on Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 9-10 a.m. Through a survey of federal and state law and recent cases, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to (legally) adapt to changes in the marketplace and technology. This session will follow a “Top 10 List” format to review compliance issues related to the federal and state regulations governing RV rental practices and agreements. In addition, the rental law session will examine new challenges created by technological advances. Bring your questions and “war stories” for a free-flowing, interactive session.

Next, Martin Onken will lead the workshop, “The Check-Out and Check-In: The Birth and Death Moments of Every RV Rental Company,” on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Attendees will learn how to do an effective check out, a thorough check-in, and how to handle sensitive problems and questions about the condition of an RV.

“Profitable RV Rentals: Jumping the Grand Canyon to Success,” also takes place on Wednesday and will be presented by Martin Onken from 3:15 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. This presentation will explore various rental pricing options a RV rental company might consider. These are perhaps the most important, yet confusing decisions a rental operator experiences every year. Making these decisions wisely are the core of successful dealers, and the reasons many dealers don’t survive the seasonal and growth challenges. This workshop will provide 10 simple guidelines to implement immediately for rental dealers to use before it’s too late.

The Recreation Vehicle Rental Association (RVRA) is a national association that represents companies that rent recreation vehicles to consumers. Members of RVRA have access to member-only benefits and resources that enable rental businesses to win consumer loyalty, offer consistently great service, stay on top of consumer trends, maximize profitability, and keep informed about regulations and laws specifically affecting rental operations. The convention is sponsored by RVDA–The National RV Dealers Association, RVDA of Canada, and the Mike Molino RV Learning Center, and each year the Convention/Expo Committee focuses on featuring new presenters to keep the content relevant and fresh for dealers.

The convention will also feature the Solution Center, an expo of the RV industry’s top companies offering products and services to help dealers improve profitability.
