RV Daily Report to get a facelift

SUN CITY, Ariz. — This weekend, RV Daily Report will receive a much-needed facelift, editor Greg Gerber announced today.

“Our website has been pretty much unchanged since it was developed in April 2009,” Gerber explained. “I built it myself, and I always thought it looked more like an eighth grade computer science project than a legitimate news site.”

RV Daily Report was originally built on a DotNetNuke platform, and the redesigned site will utilize a WordPress structure instead in order to take advantage of changes in technology for content delivery, he added. WordPress has become the blogging industry standard for news sites like RV Daily Report, said Gerber.

During the transition, some parts of the website may be down and some links may be broken, but come Monday, the new website should be in place. New features include:

  • Better graphics
  • The ability to share stories across a variety of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Google +, StumbleUpon, Pinterest and LinkedIn
  • Improved search function
  • Enhanced video display

Additional enhancements will be rolled out in coming weeks as well, all designed to ensure RV Daily Report remains a leader in dissemination of news, opinion and information about all segments of the RV industry, said Gerber.

“We will also have better spam control functionality for comments,” he added, noting that many people have told him comments they made to stories never appeared. “The entire site just has a much cleaner and easier interface for users, and the stories are better categorized.”

Users will be able to view the most recent stories as they are posted, or click on a specific page to zero in on content in a certain category such as:

  • RV industry news
  • Campground news
  • RV owner news
  • Product news
  • Job opportunities
  • Opinion

Gerber credited a chance meeting in July with a web developer at a Colorado campground with setting the redesign ball in motion. “Matt is a full-time RVer who has completed major web projects for Nielsen Ratings and Fanny Mae,” he explained. “We were able to hook up at just the right time between his major ventures that he could fit my little project into his schedule. I’m so pleased with his work that we’re looking at working together on several other RV-related projects.”
