Norcold settles class action suit

SYDNEY, Ohio —  Norcold today agreed, subject to court approval, to settle two class action lawsuits pending in federal district court in Los Angeles on behalf of customers who had purchased certain Norcold RV refrigerators.

The settlement applies to consumers who own or owned a Norcold 1200 Series refrigerator manufactured between Jan. 1, 2002 and Oct. 1, 2012, or who currently own a Norcold Series N6 or N8 manufactured between Jan. 1, 2009 to Dec. 31, 2013.

Norcold, which denies the allegations, said the settlement will allow the company to avoid the uncertainty, risk, expense and distraction of further class-action litigation.

The suit alleged that a Norcold hid information about a design defect from the public. The settlement amounts to $24.5 million in cash to RV owners and $8.5 million to the attorneys filing the action.

  1. Thanks Greg great reporting. Spread the word!!

  2. There were over 500,000 units in the affected recall. $24.5 million divided by 500,000 consumers = $49 each. Let’s assume there were 500 attorneys involved in the lawsuit. $8.5 million divided by 500 attorneys = $17,000 per attorney. Hmm. Once again the real winners are…

    • Glad to see there is someone out there who does the math. An attorney is the only one who makes any money.
I got another card in the mail, which is nothing more than what I got before. No check, no money. Settlement was reached, so where is my big $ 49.00 (+ or -) At this point, who cares anymore! The whole judicial system is a big racket and rip-off anyways! Actually I knew this would be a waste of time, but, I thought it would be worth trying. Stupid me, right !!!!!!!!!! Hey ! Thanks for you input.

I’m actually in the same boat as Florence Cook. $ 3,00.00 PLUS.

  3. What was the lawsuit about?

  4. What a deal. It will cost me around $3,000 to replace the frig. Norcold got off cheap.

  5. Bastards! Went to court against Norcold and lost. My retirement, a third of my house, my brand new $200,000 RV and two weeks out of my husbands life while in a burn center. The least all of us deserve is for them to admit they’re liars and cheats.

    • I agree! I’ve personally had two of the cooling units rupture. One exploded and caught on fire, but we were lucky enough that the RV service tech working on it was able to put the fire out before it burned the coach to the ground.

You should contact the attorney listed in the article. You might be able to be included in the class action litigation that is currently pending.

  6. I thought that your readers might appreciate some additional information regarding this subject. Forbes.com recently published an article on the problems with the Norcold refrigerators and the class action settlement which was recently denied by the Judge in the case.

  7. Richard Vanscoy

I have a 2006 Holliday Rambler, the refrigerator does not work at all. need advice on what to do.

    • Trust me when I say I know LOTS about the Norcold refrigerators, the recall, etc….and if you have a model 1200 – in my opinion – I would get it out and replace with a residential.

  8. We Had a Norcold in our RV. We lost everything but the clothes on a backs when our motor home burned

  9. Filed a claim. Never saw a penny.

  10. I filed a claim last July. Had to replace my unit after spending over $2000.00. sent receipts and proper forms. Have not seen a penny or reply. How do I find out why they are not paying my claim?
