New Zealand: Community responds to freedom camp

(Jan. 19, 2017) -- Golden Bay residents concerned about protecting the environment are distributing flyers and have installed large information signs and recycling bins at a popular freedom camping spot in Takaka.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Golden Bay residents concerned about protecting the environment are distributing flyers and have installed large information signs and recycling bins at a popular freedom camping spot in Takaka.

Resident Amy Soulfire said she was “sick of hearing people complaining about [freedom campers] on Facebook.”

“Either just whining or talking about what the council should be doing, but isn’t, when there’s simple solutions and action that can be taken by people,” she said.
