Long-time RVDA member John Howard passes away

(Jan. 8, 2018) -- RVDA regrets to inform the membership that John Howard Sr., founder of Howard RV Center, passed away on Jan. 3.

WILMINGTON, N.C. — RVDA regrets to inform the membership that John Howard Sr., founder of Howard RV Center, passed away on Jan. 3.

John and Ann Howard started their business in 1971, with three folding campers on a corner lot in Rochester, New York. They named the new company CAMPCO and operated through many cold New York winters. In 1979 they decided to relocated the business south, to Ann’s hometown of Wilmington, NC. The business grew from there and was passed to their children, Robin Howard Grover and John Howard Jr., in 1996.

Howard is survived by his children, Kathy Kittleson, Robin Grover and her husband David, and John F. Howard, Jr. and his spouse Chris Tucker; his grandchildren, Dean K. Kittleson and Lacy Anne Grover Horner; and his great-grandchild, Aubrey Ann Horner.

Memorial donations may be made to Wesleyan Chapel UMC or Good Shepherd Center, 811 Martin St, Wilmington, NC 28401.
