K-Z orchestrates hurricane relief effort

SHIPSHEWANA, Ind. — Hurricanes Harvey and Irma may have the southern coastal areas of the United States down, but K-Z RV is spearheading a hurricane relief effort in their local community.

Aram Koltookian, K-Z president, emphasized “We must all respond to assist others in their times of need, whether that support be large or small. Every contribution is important, and it all adds up.”

And now, with Irma recently hammering Florida and the greater southeastern United States, the need is even larger.

People who live and work in north central Indiana, whether they are a solitary individual or represent an entire business, are encouraged to drop off any donations at K-Z. In turn, the company will purchase goods to top off the trucks and make donations to several charities in Texas and Florida.

“Our community has always responded to those in need, and they’ve really stepped up to the plate in embracing their civic responsibilities. They’re answering this effort in ways that transcend check writing,” said Koltookian.

K-Z is acting as a staging area for the local communities, collecting physical donations to aid with disaster relief efforts. All donations must be received at K-Z by Sept. 25. Donations are accepted at 0985 North, 900 West in  Shipshewana.

Here are items FEMA suggests:

Large plastic totes with lids are desperately needed, due to flooding and the limited places in the flood zones to place cardboard and trash, so by purchasing one or more to secure donations, the contributions will be serving double-duty.

FEMA suggests other items needed include bottled water, diapers, baby wipes, pet crates, paper toweling and toilet paper. Also accepted include personal hygiene items, baggies, trash bags, batteries, flashlights, but no food items, please.

“Our employees are donating money and supplies, and additional individuals and companies have donated and dropped off even more. I’d like to continue to spread the word to family, friends, suppliers and community partners; we really can make a difference, and I thank those who’ve already donated,” Koltookian explained.

K.Z., Inc., a subsidiary of Thor Industries, Inc., is headquartered in Shipshewana, Ind. The firm produces several RV brands including Connect, Durango, Sportsmen, Sportster, Spree, Sidewinder and Venom, in addition to products offered by Venture RV and Livin’ Lite.
