Dubuque manufacturer struggling to hire employees

(Oct. 8, 2014) -- Manufacturers in Dubuque, Iowa, including Flexsteel Industries said they are in need employees to fill technical jobs including sowers and welders.

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The number of manufacturing jobs could see a significant increase in the next few years. But some Dubuque employers say they already can’t find the workers they need to fill jobs, according to KCRG.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics told KCRG there’s been a resurgence of companies looking for workers with manufacturing skills.

As hundreds of employees at Flexsteel Industries build furniture piece by piece, managers told KCRG they’re struggling to find skilled employees who want to work there.

Flexsteel General Manager, George Santiago said to KCRG, “I could use some sowers and some welders. Some press operators. Some people who are willing to learn how to change over equipment.”
