Controversial FEMA trailers for sale in Texas

(Aug. 30, 2010) -- More than 300 FEMA trailers are up for sale at Campers Direct, an RV dealership in Bastrop County, Texas. The owner of Campers Direct estimates more than 60 percent of the trailers he bought at auction have never been used.

TEXAS — More than 300 FEMA trailers are up for sale at Campers Direct, an RV dealership in Bastrop County, reports News 8 Austin.

Campers Direct owner Steve Stadheim told News 8 Austin that several investors, including himself, bought more than 15,000 of the trailers in one joint deal. He estimates more than 60 percent of the trailers he bought at auction have never been used and only about 10 percent show signs of wear and tear.

“You know I’m a taxpayer. Everybody is a taxpayer and this is a chance for a taxpayer to get some of their money back on a discounted travel trailer,” Stadheim said.
