RESTON, Va. — RVIA’s Capitol Hill Advocacy Day is always one of the most popular events at Committee Week and vitally important to the industry’s lobbying efforts at the federal level, a press release from the organization stated. This year’s event will take place on Wed., June 3.
“While many industries include a day on Capitol Hill as part of their annual meetings in DC, very few can claim the widespread success of our Capitol Hill Advocacy Day, which has raised the profile of both the RV industry and RVIA in the eyes of Congress,” said RVIA President Richard Coon.
On Capitol Hill Advocacy Day, RVIA members visit with members of congress and their staff to increase awareness of the RV industry at the federal level and focus attention on issues that impact the RV market. The Government Affairs staff at RVIA schedules these appointments, provide briefing materials, and accompany members on visits.
In the past few years alone, the relationships cemented at Advocacy Day have increased membership in the House RV Caucus, facilitated Congressional support for the axle weight increase for motorhomes, the renewal of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), the motorhome sales tax deduction, the SBA pilot program, and several other industry initiatives, the release stated.
Senate RV Caucus Event Caps the Day
Capitol Hill Advocacy Day is being enhanced this year with the day being capped by a special inaugural reception honoring the Senate RV Caucus featuring special guests Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN), who co-chair the group.
A hearing room in the Hart Senate Office Building will be transformed into a campground setting where RVIA members will mingle with special guests from the U.S. Senate, Capitol Hill staff and allied trade associations.
The newly formed Senate RV Caucus joins the House RV Caucus to provide the industry with two influential groups to support the industry’s efforts in Washington, DC.
