Cape Charles/Chesapeake Bay KOA Resort is newest jewel for KOA

CHESAPEAKE BAY, Va. — Kampgrounds of America (KOA) has added the Cape Charles/Chesapeake Bay KOA Resort in Virginia to its 500-plus campground KOA system in North America.

“The Cape Charles/Chesapeake Bay KOA Resort is an absolutely beautiful location, and provides our KOA guests with yet another wonderful place to enjoy their camping lifestyle,” said KOA President and CEO Pat Hittmeier. “There is nothing like the Chesapeake Bay, and this park offers just the type of experience our campers love.”

The campground is by far the premiere camping location on Chesapeake Bay, with its own private beach and surrounded by a 1,700-acre National Wildlife Refuge.

Campers can enjoy one of the only locations on the East Coast where you can watch the sun set on the water.

The campground has 316 full-service, 50-amp sites, along with seven Deluxe Cabins and five luxurious safari-style “glamping” tents. The campground also has the Jackspot Bar and Grill, a full-service restaurant right on the beach.

The Cape Charles/Chesapeake Bay KOA Resort is extremely pet friendly. The north end of the campground’s beach area is “reserved” as an off-leash area for dogs and owners to play on the sand and in the water. There’s even an off-leash dog park at the Resort.

Also at the campground location is the 71-room Sunset Beach Hotel & Beach Club, which offers both standard hotel rooms as well as suites. The hotel and the campground are owned and operated by Blue Water Development of West Ocean City, Maryland.

“First and foremost, we’re incredibly proud to be the first KOA on the Chesapeake Bay, in addition to adding another unique camping experience to the rapidly growing portfolio along the east coast,” said Blue Water Development founder Todd Burbage. “Our partnership with KOA has been tremendous. Their knowledge and expertise help create a smooth guest experience, from booking to stay, and that has been invaluable to us as we are committed to learning new ways to establish quality contact with our campers that result in a long-lasting relationship.”

The Cape Charles/Chesapeake Bay KOA Resort, located at 32246 Lankford Highway in Cape Charles, Virginia, will officially open for the season on Friday, March 30.
But campers don’t have to wait to make their reservations for 2018. Reservations can be made today at the campground’s website at https://koa.com/campgrounds/chesapeake-bay/.

The campground will also be participating in Kampgrounds of America’s annual KOA Care Camps Big Weekend Friday and Saturday, May 11-12. Campers who stay as paying guests on Friday, May 11 will receive a night of camping on Saturday, May 12 for just $20. All registration funds collected on May 12 will go to benefit KOA Care Camps for children with cancer, the official charity of Kampgrounds of America.

Care Camps is a network of 125 specialized summer camps for children undergoing treatment for cancer. To find out more about KOA Care Camps, or to make a donation, go to www.koacarecamps.org.
