UNITED KINGDOM — The Bailey Pegasus Ancona has won Practical Caravan Magazine’s ‘Best Tourer for Small Families’ title for the second consecutive year.
As reigning champion in this category, it was benchmarked against the crop of new 2017 models from rival manufacturers and once again was voted best in class by the caravanning publication, a release from the company stated. Judges opinions were based upon extensive use of this particular model as a long term loan vehicle over the past twelve months.
The single axle Pegasus Ancona has been a regular fixture in the model line-up since 2011. In its latest guise it materialises as a five-berth layout with an MTPLM of 1,475kg to make it accessible to a wide range of family tow vehicles, plus a re-configured layout featuring a dedicated rear children’s bedroom with twin fixed bunks, a side dinette and a full-width, transverse end washroom. A parallel bed front lounge and a central kitchen complete a layout. Should it be required, there is an option for an additional six berth for the Ancona, which can be added to as a Retailer Fit Upgrade at a cost of £700*.
As with all Bailey leisure vehicles the Ancona is built using the patented Alu-Tech construction technology. A fully specified Truma Combi programmable heating system, with faster heat and hot water supply, then combines with market-leading insulation properties of this body shell to make Pegasus a genuine four-season caravan, the release continued.
Inside the new Pegasus takes design cues from its upmarket sibling, the Unicorn range. The combination of the modern ‘Mendip Ash’ furniture, featuring new design locker doors with a dual gloss finish, ‘Italian Stone’ worktops, chrome fixtures and fittings plus the signature Bailey front vertical skylight totally transform the interiors the release stated.
As practical as they are comfortable these well thought-out vehicles include a host of new features aimed at making the owners life easier – notably Pegasus is the first product range to benefit from the all new ‘DreamSleep’ soft furnishing system, available in a choice of either Richmond (standard) or Belvoir (cost upgrade) fabric options, which looks to set new standards in caravanning comfort, the release continued. Featuring a domestic style cushion construction, with multi-layered base cushions and shaped back rests, it is built using breathable fabrics and a solid foam core to provide customers something much more akin to what they would find in the lounge of their own home.
In presenting this award to the Pegasus Ancona for a second time, Alastair Clements – group editor of Practical Caravan Magazine said, “The flaws of the old model have been ironed out, and its qualities enhanced. Add in attractive lighting, lots of storage and modern fabrics – not to mention a tempting price – and this might just be the perfect van for a growing family.”
Commenting on the Pegasus success story, Nick Howard, managing director of Bailey of Bristol said, “Naturally we are delighted that our Pegasus range has received further positive recognition from such a respected source. The fact that it still receiving the plaudits two-years into its lifecycle is testimony to the amount of work which originally went into the development of the fourth-generation models.”
“The design emphasis was on the both the choice and execution of layouts, plus the enhancement of interior style and comfort. Add to this genuine reductions in vehicle unladen weights as well as their recommended retail prices, and we believe that this remains the best Pegasus range yet,” he added.
All seven models of the new Pegasus range, including the award-winning Ancona, will be on display on stand 19-29 at the forthcoming Motorhome & Caravan Show 2016 from Oct. 11-16.
